As expected, Goal announced this Tuesday, October 11, the mixed reality helmet Meta Quest Pro. Yes, mixed, confirmed by the CEO of the company, Mark Zuckerberg.
The Quest Pro works with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) and is a new branch of the Quest VR headset line, with a new processor and screen, a drastically redesigned body and drivers.
According to the report posted on the website of TheVergedevice pre-orders are now available in 22 countries and Meta Quest Pro will start shipping on October 25.
In addition, Zuckerberg confirmed the price of the helmet, one of the great unknowns until now: It will have a value of 1,499 dollars, much more expensive than what was said.
Main features
The Quest Pro is effectively a heavily redesigned Quest 2 with added features. Its body uses a slimmer lens stack, which Meta claims reduces its depth by 40 percent compared to the Quest 2.
It sits on your head with a padded plastic ring, similar to the Quest 2’s optional Elite strap, rather than fabric straps, and its battery has been moved to the back of the headset, rebalancing it. That helps offset the 722-gram weight, which is slightly heavier than the Quest 2’s 503 grams.
The battery is precisely its lowest point: lasts one to two hours instead of the two or three that Quest 2 offers. Regarding the motion controls, now they are rechargeable and they’re packed with cameras that track movement like a headset.
Meta Quest Pro uses the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Pluswhich offers 50 percent more power than Quest 2’s XR2Y it has 12 GB of memory instead of 6 GB. Also, it comes with 256GB of storage.
uses two LCD panels giving you 1800 x 1920 pixels per eye. That’s about the same as the Quest 2 on paper, but Meta promises that panel design will give users 75 percent more contrast and 10 percent more pixels per degree of viewingamong other benefits.
Meta is touting two major new features that you won’t find in older headsets. The first is a set of inward-facing cameras that track your eyes and facewhile the second feature is the full color transfer videoan intermediate step between virtual reality and holographic augmented reality, both for a more complete experience.
