Mercedes does not rule out the development of a family body variant of its new electric car. The Mercedes EQE will become a more practical vehicle as a 100% electric alternative to the Mercedes E-Class Estate. A model that, if it reaches the market, will do so before the year 2030.
The EQ family of electric cars from Mercedes continues to grow at a significant rate. The arrival on the market of the new Mercedes EQE has marked a turning point in the German firm’s electric offensive. And it is that, after the technological flagship that represents the Mercedes EQS, a model destined for a more important segment and that brings together a greater number of registrations has finally been incorporated into the range.
Mercedes has big plans for the EQE range. Soon the new Mercedes EQE SUV will be welcomed, an SUV that will also play a leading role. And there is even more, since the door has not been closed to the development of a family body variant. The idea of a Mercedes EQE Estate flies over the Mercedes headquarters and its future launch is not ruled out.
Waiting for the new Mercedes electric family car
The process of developing a Estate body variant of the EQE It does not suppose, a priori, a huge financial outlay for Mercedes. The bulk of the resources have already been invested in the creation of the EQE that we can currently find in dealerships, so it is possible to take advantage of all the work previously done to continue expanding the offer of electric models.
No Mercedes model is alien to the transition process to electric mobility. Moreover, by 2030, half of Mercedes’ new car sales must correspond to electric vehicles. Logically, and although the company has not given many details about the launches it will make in the coming years, sooner or later the time will come to incorporate an electric family car into the range.
The specialized medium Auto Bildhas published interesting information about the hypothetical Mercedes EQE Estate. A model that, as has been previously pointed out, has not been ruled out by the company. If it materializes in a series production vehicle, it will be positioned as the 100% electric alternative to the Mercedes E-Class Estate.
The new generation of the Mercedes E-Class and the future of the EQE
Mercedes is working at full capacity on the development of the new generation of the E-Class. A generational change that will bring important new features, such as the disappearance of the Mercedes E-Class Coupé and the E-Class Cabriolet. The family model will have continuity in the range. Therefore, it is not ruled out that at some point in its commercial life cycle it must coexist with the EQE Estate.
Compared to a conventional EQE, the Estate variant (Family) will offer a plus of practicality. Especially a larger cargo space in the trunk. It is also important to underline that the German medium indicates the Shooting Brake body format. It is a very interesting possibility since, by opting for this option, Mercedes would further differentiate this model from the E-Class Estate.
In any case, and beyond the design and/or format chosen by the brand, what is truly important will lie in the electric propulsion system. A propulsion system that will be shared with the EQE. We can expect a 90.6 kWh battery for enjoy autonomy with more than 600 kilometers. To see the light, the EQE Estate will be ready to storm dealerships before the year 2030.
