After several days of rumors and denials, Ferrari finally made official this Tuesday, November 29, the resignation of Mattia Binotto, the director of the Formula 1 structure of the Maranello brand.
Until now, Ferrari has not revealed who will take over the position of the Italian engineer, who has already said goodbye to the “tifosi” through a letter made public.
“It is with absolute regret that I have decided to end my history with Ferrari. I am leaving a company that I love, of which I was a part for 28 years; with the serenity that comes from the conviction that I have given myself the maximum to achieve the objectives that were set”, says Binotto in the text.
“There are united and growing teams,” adds the engineer who in his years in Maranello advanced in the different departments of the company until he reached the management of Formula 1 cars.
The executive became the main team in 2019, the most important position in a team, or from there to be the technical director, after the departure of Maurizio Arrivabene.
Coincidentally, Arrivabene, until yesterday, was part of the Juventus Turin board of directors, who resigned completely this Monday, November 28.
Although the Ferrari statement does not give details of Binotto’s departure, nor do I know his reasons, everything indicates that the core of his resignation is the loss of confidence on the part of John Elkan, the president of Ferrari.
That is saying the Gazzetta dello Sport since a couple of weeks ago, when he announced that Binotto’s departure was a matter of days.
On that occasion, the Italian outlet said that the replacement could be Frédéric Vasseur, director of Alfa Romeo.
Ferrari said it was hasty to talk about Binotto’s resignation and that it was “unsubstantiated rumours”.

Mattia Binotto, the historic director of Ferrari, leaves Maranello
“I am leaving behind a strong and well-prepared team that I am sure will achieve more challenges and to whom I wish the best for what is to come. I think it’s time to make this tough decision.”adds Binotto in his farewell letter from Ferrari.
With Binotto as technical director, Ferrari alternated good with bad. In the 2022 season it started as the most competitive brand of all. With him, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz achieved 4 victories and 12 pole positions. Leclerc got the runner-up on the last date in the duel he had with Checo Pérez.
the relationship was not good pole position-12/4 wins, the sixth worst stat in the category’s history for those who got more than 5 pole.
On the other hand, the brand made numerous strategic errors that made it impossible to keep up with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull.
