The crunch or labor exploitation has been and continues to be a recurring problem in the video game industry. Virtually none of the large companies in the sector have been spared this phenomenon used to finish projects on time and during which those affected are often not even financially compensated. In that sense, now Matt Booty defends Bethesda and ensures that the crunch culture no longer exists in the company. This has been assured by the head of Xbox Game Studios in a question and answer session with the entire company, as pick up the Kotaku portal.
One of the questions addressed to Booty referred to the crunch suffered by the Bethesda staff during the development of Fallout 76 as a Kotaku article explained, before Microsoft acquired the company. This was his response: “The challenge with a lot of these articles is that they look back, sometimes way back in time. The crunch was part of the industry. I’m not saying that to justify it, I’m just saying that it was part of the culture of the industry. I literally slept under my desk early in my career. And we saw it as a matter of honor,” Booty began.

“I know from talking to leaders at Bethesda that we no longer have a situation where people are crunching and we don’t have that atmosphere of abuse. I’m sure of it”, finished Booty. Facts that support these words are the delays of Starfield Y redfall to 2023 when they initially planned to see the light during the present 2022. Now Bethesda prefers to take additional time to be able to properly finish the developments instead of forcing its employees to participate in marathon work days as it happened in the past.
