In a recent interview with rolling stonesthe Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta explained whether or not there is a romance between Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, and Namorthe character that Huerta embodies in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Trying not to add spoilers, we can say that in the most recent movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU, for its acronym in English) the two characters they disagree most of the time, but seem to understand each other on a deeper levelparticularly during a sequence where Namor takes Shuri to the Talokan.
Although some fans believe that the two characters have romantic feelings for each other, Tenoch Huerta is not necessarily convinced: “I don’t feel like it was a romantic touch between them. I think it was more of a human and intimate touch. I mean the history of their kingdoms, the history of their people, they share the same root and the threat comes from the same place for both, for the same reason.”.
“Both of them face threats from Western countries like the United States and France in the story, because of vibranium, the natural resources. I think they connect in that way.Huerta explained.
The actor gave an example from real life: “When you meet someone and have a good relationship, whether this person is your preferred gender or not, you always have this ambiguous relationship. It is normal. Is human. So I think this happened with both”.
Will we see Shuri and Namor linked in a romance in the future?
Asked if we can see Shuri and Namor in the future as a couple or related in a romance, Tenoch Huerta replied: “If that can turn into a romantic relationship or not? I don’t know. It was not our intention. could happen or not”.
“The beautiful part of this relationship is that it doesn’t need to be romantic to be deep. You don’t have to be romantic to be beautiful, bright and intimate. And this connection between a man and a woman on different levels does not necessarily have to end in a romantic relationship. and that’s beautiful”.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is still available in theaters and at the top of the box office. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 84 percent approval rating, calling it “a moving tribute that satisfactorily moves the franchise forward, marking an ambitious and emotionally rewarding triumph for the MCU.”
