Mark Hamill prepares his farewell to Luke Skywalker. After playing the character for more than four decades, the actor wants to let go of the galactic farmer turned Jedi knight.
For many years, Luke has been one of the most iconic characters in pop culture, and one of the most beloved by fans of the saga. Star Wars, since its traditional “hero’s journey” arc was key to the development of one of the best developed battles in the history of fantastic cinema. Anakin Skywalker’s son left Tatooine to learn the ways of the Jedi Order and, later, to start a rebellion against the Empire. The warrior’s teachings would pass on to new generations.
This was eventually seen in the sequel trilogy, or the prequel series. The Mandalorian. However, having been involved in these recent projects, Hamill thinks it’s time to move on and let go of this stage of his artistic career. During an interview with CBS Sunday Morningon the occasion of his appearance in the comedy The Machinesoon to be released, stated the following:
“I had my time and that’s okay. But it was enough.”
Despite giving these statements, the interpreter admitted that nothing is final and that, if the story was adequate, he would think about returning. He even said, “Never say never.”

Of course, he also recognized that, at this time, he does not really think there is a reason for the character to return to action:
“I don’t see a reason for it to happen. Let me put it this way: I mean, they have a lot of stories to tell. They don’t need Luke anymore.”.
Hamill first brought Luke to life in 1977. Neither he nor his co-stars Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford initially had much faith in the first installment of Star Wars, a project led by the new filmmaker George Lucas. However, since its release, the film has become a true international phenomenon, stoking the fever for space operas, launching a huge box office franchise and catapulting its stars to fame.
