Marc Márquez has once again taken pole position in MotoGP more than 1,000 days after achieving the last one. He was also at Motegi, in 2019. The #93 has signed a great classification on the Japanese track on wet asphalt.
Three years or 1,071 days, as you prefer. This is the time that Marc Márquez has had to wait to achieve pole position in MotoGP again. The last one – penultimate already – was in Motegi, at the 2019 Japanese GP. And since then the #93 has lived a real ‘way of the cross’. Now on the same stage Marc Márquez is once again the fastest with a Honda RC213V that hides its weaknesses in the rain.
Saturday started in Motegi with a wet track and heavy rainfall, a whole declaration of intent at the climate level. These asphalt conditions were maintained throughout the day, to the point of delay the resolution of Moto2 Q2 and the start of MotoGP qualifying due to two moments in which the rainfall was especially strong.
Marc Márquez has added his 91st pole position in the World Championship, number 63 in MotoGP. It arrives 1,071 days after the last
Then, Marc Márquez had already launched a warning to navigatorsan expression that can almost be called adequate given the circumstances. The #93 got the best time in the MotoGP FP2, second session of the weekend that should have been the third and that in the end was the last when three were scheduled. MotoGP stuff, because beans are cooked everywhere.
In any case, the starring role of Marc Márquez was divided into two actssince between FP2 and Q2 a Q1 was disputed in which Johann Zarco and Jorge Martín got the last two tickets for the final round of qualifying. The big loser in Q1 was Enea Bastianini, every time the Italian went down, as had already happened in FP1. The winner of the Aragón GP will start at the back.

a tough opponent
Johann Zarco and the pilot from Cervera exchanged blows every lap they managed to complete in Q2 without making any mistakes, as the track improved with the passing of the minutes. All in all, Marc Márquez sealed his 63rd pole position in MotoGP with three minutes to go with a lap that no one could replicate. Marc’s 1:55.214 was at the top of the time table.
Johann Zarco had to settle for second position at the controls of his Ducati, with the pride of being the only one capable of standing up to Marc. For his part, Brad Binder took third position, a result that allows him to achieve his best grid position in the queen class. In fact, Binder had never been on the front row despite having two MotoGP wins.
Title contenders fail
None of the three candidates for the title have had their best Q2 today at Motegi. Aleix Espargaró has saved the furniture with a sixth place that he knows very well, both for having his rivals behind him and for the fourth place of Maverick Viñales. Jorge Martín has slipped between the two Aprilia riders.
For its part, Fabio Quartararo will start ninth, on the third row of the grid, after being overtaken by Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, even if the KTM rider crashed with three minutes to go. Even more complex will be the start of the Japanese GP for Pecco Bagnaia starting twelfth in a fourth line that will also include Luca Marini and Pol Espargaró.
