World soccer star Lionel Messi is in the process of creating a holding company that will invest in sports, media and technology.
It will be one of the ways through which the Argentine current player of the French PSG plans to channel the money earned throughout his long career at the top of world sport.
The firm, called “Play Time Sports Tech Hold”will be based in San Francisco, in the United States.
The company will explore opportunities “independent of the scenario”, says a statement released this Wednesday, October 19.
He also says that the investments will be varied, which could include, for example, supporting startup founders to build strong sports-related technology companies. Likewise, he could invest in soccer teams.
Messi plans to invest in sports and technology
“I am excited to extend our roots to Silicon Valley, and I am delighted that Play Time collaborates with bold entrepreneurs from around the world,” says the Play Time text signed by Messi himself.
play time will be under the direction of Razmig Hovaghimiana partner at the venture capital company Graph Ventures.
Michael Márquez, founding partner of investment banking Code Advisors, will be one of the special advisors.
Hovaghimian was also the founder of the soccer company Matchday.com, which counts Play Time as its first investor and which is planned to launch before the World Cup in Qatar 2022 begins.
The holding company that Messi will use to invest also has a stake in soccer technology startup AC Momento.
“From the moment I met Leo and the Messi family in 2017, it was clear that his vision for the future is bold,” Hovaghimian said in a separate statement on the subject. “They want to continue to have a direct and lasting impact on and off the field.”
In the statement there are no details about the amounts that Messi plans to invest.
The sports industry is one of the most important in the world in terms of amounts invested, since it constitutes a very broad business that ranges from the sale of food and souvenirs to broadcast rights and sponsorship agreements.
One of the most notable of recent times was, precisely, Messi’s signing for the French soccer team Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), which has already broken a record for advertising revenue thanks to the Argentine footballer.
