Lenovo announced its eighth generation of series laptops Legion Slim, designed for those who like to play while on the go. Powered by 13th-generation Intel processors and NVIDIA RTX 40 graphics, the new PCs are among the first to incorporate AI. The manufacturer integrated physical chips from the Lenovo Artificial Intelligence (LA) family, which adjust equipment performance in real time.
The model that tops the list is the Legion Slim 7i and its variant 7, a laptop with a 16-inch screen that integrates a WQXGA IPS panel of up to 240 Hz. In terms of specifications, we find a processor Intel Core i9-13900H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphicsup to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, up to 1 TB PCIe (Gen4) SSD and 99.99 Whr battery with fast charge.
As expected in these models, Lenovo has come up with multiple configurations where the screen changes. Added to the 240 Hz variant we find a Legion Slim 7i with a 165 Hz panel with a brightness of 300 nits, Dolby Vision and NVIDIA G-SYNC support. For content creators, a 16-inch screen with 3.2K resolution (3200 x 2000 pixels) with a rate of 165 Hz and brightness of 430 nits is offered.
If Intel processors aren’t your thing, the Legion Slim 7 includes an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS chip. Lenovo has not wanted to complicate with the graphics and maintains the 8 GB GeForce RTX 4070. The rest of the specifications will not change, so users will be able to configure it with the same amount of RAM and storage.
Legion Slim 5i: for gamers on a tight budget
If you need a laptop to play, but you don’t want to spend a lot of money, Lenovo has an alternative. The Legion Slim 5i it is cheaper than its big brother, since it makes some sacrifices in the components. At first we found a chip Intel Core i7-13700H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 407 GPU, up to 32 GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 1 TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. The Slim 5 variant integrates a processor AMD Ryzen 9 7840HS and it maintains the same specifications as its Intel counterpart.
This model offers a further alternative with thinner chassis and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU. As expected, the performance will be much lower, since this chip is designed for games like Fortnite, League of Legends either DoTA 2. Lenovo confirmed that the Legion Slim 5 with AMD processor will also arrive in a variant with a 14-inch OLED screenalthough it will be released at the end of the year.
Lenovo leaves thermal management and performance in the hands of an AI
As these are high-performance, thin-walled devices, Lenovo has used its ColdFront 5.0 thermal system that includes hybrid heat pipes, phase change thermal compound, and a new air intake system. According to the manufacturer, the Legion Slim 7i produces only 48 dB of noise in performance mode thanks to a 9-blade fan. He Cooling system of the new laptops is managed with the help of AI.
With the explosion of ChatGPT, more and more companies are interested in providing AI to their teams or services. Lenovo has jumped on the bandwagon and as announced weeks ago, the manufacturer will use artificial intelligence algorithms to adjust thermal performance. The Legion Slim integrates the same AI chip as the Legion Pro, which monitor frames per second while playing.
By performing real-time analysis, ColdFront 5.0 will modify power consumption to give you the best performance. The specifications promise that the AI will help achieve a TDP of up to 140 W on the Legion Slim 7i and 7 models.
