Only a few details separate Ariana DeBose to join Kraven’s film, to play Calyoso, the great love of the Russian villain
Kraven’s movie is already starting to take its course before starting filming, and the production of the tape reports that Kraven’s romantic interest, Calypso, has arrived.
Deadline reported that actress Ariana DeBose will be the interpreter of Calypso, Kraven’s love, and who in the comics influences the Russian’s hatred of Spider-Man.
DeBose is an actress who began her career in musical theater in 2011, and in 2018 she ventured into the cinema, standing out in the film West Side Story, a film for which she was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Supporting Actress.
Joining in recent weeks have been actors Fred Hechinger as Dimitri Smerdyakov/Chameleon and Russel Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff.
In the comics, Calypso Ezili is a priestess with mental and vulnerability powers who aids Kraven with enhanced abilities and a longer lifespan. Kraven falls in love with Calypso, who pushed the Russian into unleashing his obsession and hatred for Spider-Man.
Calypso will be a key element should Kraven cross paths with other Sony-built characters, such as Venom, Carnage, Morbius, or even Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
JC Chandor will direct the Kraven movie, while screenwriter Richard Wenk, who penned the plot for The Equalizer 2, will pen the first solo film of Spider-Man’s nemesis.
With Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the protagonist of this film, Kraven the Hunter is scheduled to hit the big screen on January 13, 2023.
