2021 was an important year for the KIA automaker because it renewed its logo to show a new brand image. It also launched new models at that time such as the K5 and the EV6.
The logo with the letters KIA enclosed in a circle was left behind and transformed into a more angular logo, in which the 3 letters are connected and give it a more modern touch.
The brand did not imagine that this renewal of the logo would become a source of confusion among people. Google reports that the term KN, which is confused with KIA, registers between 27 and 32,800 monthly searches in the United States. Although the new logo has also been confused with the letters KM.
The first time this confusion was detected was in the same 2021, when a user of the well-known Reddit platform asked if anyone knew about KM cars. Other users responded that it was the KIA car brand, not KM.
The confusion is shown again, because according to Google, these are the most frequent searches in this regard:
- What car logo is KN?
- Who makes the KN car?
- What are KN cars?
- What car has the initials KN?
A Twitter user pointed out this confusion in November of this year, proving that the confusion still exists.
However, with all the confusion, when doing a Google search it shows both images of the brand’s cars and its website on the first page of results.
Likewise, in related searches, the brand and variants of words and phrases that people are looking for clearly appear.
So after all, even if it seems like a mistake, maybe it is a good marketing strategy, because by looking for what people understand in the logo, you will end up knowing more about KIA.
