Kanye West was waiting to release an upcoming documentary, called Ye. However, there is already a new member in his long list of enemies: the film and television studio MRC (Between knives and secrets, Baby: The crime apprentice). After the controversial anti-Semitic statements that he issued a few days ago, the singer faces another problem, and that is that the aforementioned documentary has been canceled by MRC.
The news is released even when the project was already finished and was only waiting for an official release date. Before making the decision to cancel it, studio executives were already in talks with some distributors to launch it in the best possible way. The possibility of sending it to certain film festivals was even considered.
“This morning, following discussion with our filmmakers and distribution partners, we have made the decision not to proceed with distribution of our recently completed Kanye West documentary. We cannot support any content that amplifies their platform,” wrote Modi Wiczyk, Asif Satchuy and Scott Tenley, CEOs of MRC.
What did Kanye West say?
In early October, West came to the media’s attention again after a conversation with Sean “Diddy.” In it he mentioned several attacks against the Jewish community. Later, he took to Twitter to say that he would use “death with 3” against the Jewish people. This term was interpreted as a misspelling of “DEFCON 3”, a term used to measure the level of defense of the Armed Forces. From these events, many signs of hatred towards the Jewish community arose.
Several brands broke relations with West, including Balenciaga. Adidas, for its part, has yet to take a firm stance. In a recent interview for TMZclaimed not to regret what happened, and assured that the attacks and cancellations were a way to silence him.
“I’m not losing money. The day I was removed from the Balenciaga site was one of the most liberating. They are trying to silence me. But here we are, baby. We’re not going anywhere.”
It was also announced that CAA, one of the world’s most popular representation agencies, had removed West from their ranks, showing that they do not support his comments and are against any hateful messages.
“If you hear or come across these intolerances and falsehoods being perpetrated, please let us know. It is totally unacceptable. And for those who are afraid to use their voice, I hope this encourages you to do so”, concludes the letter from MRC.
Do you agree with the studio’s decision? How far will the controversies of the famous rapper go?
John Joseph Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the cinema up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movies.
