Humberto Calzada, chief economist at Rankia Latin America, adds that the credit will give an additional boost to the summer discount season, due to the halt in the increase in interest rates by the Bank of Mexico. Calzada points out that this will depend, to a large extent, on how consumer demand is behaving in the country, although so far Mexico has resisted the economic conditions.
Chedraui, the newcomer to the summer offers
Arturo Vasconcelos, deputy general director of Chedraui, says he is optimistic about the results of the campaign Is for you, which has its second edition. He retailer Mexico, which did not participate in the summer discount season until last year, launched its campaign in 2022. “Our approach last year was a bit exploratory, but this year we had more preparation time to be able to manage offers with suppliers,” Vasconcelos declares in an interview with Expansion.
Marcela Muñoz, Vector’s director of fundamental analysis, comments that with the decision to enter discount campaigns, Chedraui has an opportunity to gain market share and identity.
“To the extent that inflation has impacted the budget of consumers, they will be more expectant of the offers, especially when they are not conditioned to a certain number of purchases of items (as is usually the case with Julio Regalado), but rather that rather imply a direct discount”, declares Muñoz.
