Few superhero movies have been surrounded by as much controversy as the League of Justice. The feature film, initially directed by Zack Snyder, passed into the hands of Joss Whedon after the departure of the first to attend to a personal problem. Whedon, however, got rid of much of the footage and had a contentious relationship with most of the actors. With so much criticism against him, the filmmaker has finally come out to give explanations.
Perhaps the biggest controversy surrounding Joss Whedon and his work on the League of Justice is related to Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg. Surely you remember that this character, in the Whedon footage, barely had a presence. The situation caused the aforementioned actor to charge against Whedon on multiple occasions.
“Joss Whedon’s on-set treatment with the cast and crew of the League of Justice It was disgusting, abusive, unprofessional and completely unacceptable,” mentioned Fisher in mid-2020. What does Joss Whedon have to say? The director did not hold back any comments and, in an interview with vultureHe pointed out, first of all, that Cyborg was “the worst of all the characters in the movie”.
Despite the above, as he mentions, he spoke with Fisher to introduce some changes in the character. Joss Whedon assures that the relationship was cordial and respectful during that stage, which contrasts with the actor’s harsh statements. Consequently, Whedon says that Fisher’s words were not worth arguing about because they simply weren’t true. “We are talking about a malevolent force. We are talking about a bad actor both ways“, he stated bluntly.
Joss Whedon also took advantage of his speech to talk about Gal Gadot, who accused the filmmaker of threatening to “destroy her career” and of having toxic behavior on the set of the League of Justice. Whedon, of course, denied the accusation, hinting that there may have been a misunderstood because English is not the mother tongue of the actress:
“I don’t threaten people, who does that? English is not their mother tongue, and I tend to be obnoxiously flowery in my speech.”
Joss Whedon
It will be interesting to see if Ray Fisher and Gail Gadot will have an answer. We are sure that the interview with Joss Whedon will give something to talk about in the coming days.
