Actor Jon Bernthal has opened up about the question of whether he will one day return as the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Many are the fans who are left with the desire to return to see more adventures of Jon Bernthal as the Marvel antihero known as Punisher After the cancellation of his solo series on Netflix, and with the return of the rights of the character to the house of ideas, we all hope that he will return again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but will he ever return? This is the question that many of us ask ourselves and that most of the media transmit to the actor with every opportunity they have to speak with him.
Bernthal first appeared as US Marine turned vigilante Frank Castle in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil. They liked their performance so much that they decided to produce the spin-off with the solo character becoming one of the best live-action comic adaptations to date.
Following Netflix’s cancellation of The punisher And the rest of the Marvel series, with Marvel Studios producing their shows exclusively for Disney +, fans wonder when and how they will bring Castle and Matt Murdock back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil, in particular, has been in the spotlight with the rumored return of Charlie Cox in Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film that will explore the consequences of messing with the multiverse, and if Alfred Molina’s Doc Ok and Jaime Foxx’s Electro can appear, why not the devil from Hell’s Kitchen or the Punisher himself?
In an exclusive interview with Screen rant, Jon Bernthal, John Pollono and Shea Whigham talked about their new movie Small Engine Repair. And of course, they didn’t miss a chance to talk to Bernthal about the MCU multiverse and how if there was ever a time to bring Frank Castle back, it is now. When asked about his interest in that possibility, Bernthal said the following:
“You know, we’ll see, I mean, honestly, I don’t think about it much. I’m so happy, look, we are all enormously blessed to be doing this. I can tell the other guys that you’re talking to too, that we really love this. We really love doing this. We work hard at it, we support our families through it, through it, but we never lose touch with how grateful we are to be in the position that we have to be able to do this for a living. I like doing this, I like working with people that I really respect, love, admire and do things with. This type of project is precisely that, it is exactly the type of thing I want to do. So whatever comes, you know, in the future, it comes. But this is something really worth celebrating. “.
Let’s basically the actor confessed that he has no idea whether or not he will appear again in the MCU and he wanted to tell the people of Screen Rant that he was there to talk about his new movie, Small Engine Repair directed by John Pollono, a film based on his 2011 play of the same name.
The film, in which the original cast of the play reprise their roles, centers on a group of high school friends, now in their prime, who meet one night in a repair shop under mysterious circumstances. In addition to that film, Bernthal will also appear in HBO’s The Sopranos prequel, The Many Saints of Newark, King Richard, The Unforgivable, and is currently filming Showtime’s American Gigolo series.
Hopefully good old Kevin Feige has in mind to bring him back and repair the damage the cancellation did. The punisher on Netflix, a series that had it not been for the decision to create the Disney + platform, it would surely have lasted like Daredevil, many more seasons.
What do you think?
