Joan Lascorz saw her life completely changed in 2012. A fatal accident in the free practice of the World SuperBike at the Imola circuit cut off his career as a motorcycling pilot. Lascorz was tetraplegic, but that never took him away from the motor world at any time. In fact, Joan Lascorz has remained closely linked to competition, although he has never done so as before, since the Catalan rider faces a major challenge. After much pondering, Joan Lascorz has made the decision to contest the Dakar 2022 at the controls of an adapted ‘Side by Side’.
The former World SuperBike rider will compete in the Dakar 2022 at the controls of one of the Can-Am of the Buggy Masters Team, structure directed by Eudald Noé. A team with extensive experience in the ‘Side by Side’ category that has accumulated around twenty participations in the Dakar behind its back. The vehicle will be adapted to the needs of Lascorz, although one of the key points to compete in the toughest rally-raid in the world will be the use of the smart cushion of the foundation of his good friend Isidre Esteve. Lascorz has not yet decided which co-pilot will accompany him on this adventure.
The decision on the co-driver and the preparation for the Dakar will largely depend of the test that Joan Lascorz will carry out with his Can-Am at the ‘La Codina Rural’ farm, owned by another Spanish rider with Dakar aspirations like Xevi Pons. Joan himself does not rule out doing a second test with the team in Morocco or Tunisia, as well as participating in the last round of the Spanish All-Terrain Rally Championship to complete their preparation. Throughout the process, he will have the support of the team and the KOA Center, one of his most important sponsors in this new project.
