The days go by… and the news around DC continues. After several weeks of controversy, cancellations, statements and more, it seems that there is finally some clarity about what will happen to DC’s characters in the years to come. However, the new information could arouse a new controversy, and that is that, according to the first reports, James Gunn would seek to unite Robert Pattinson’s Batman with his DC Extended Universe.
In accordance with VarietyThis is the week that James Gunn and Peter Safran will present David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, with their famous 10-year plan. Although there are no specific details about it yet, nor is it known how it will be released to the public, certain insiders have already spoken about the information they have.
According to an anonymous source, Gunn and Safran are exploring the possibility of incorporating Matt Reeves’ Batman into the Extended Universe. This includes, of course, Robert Pattinson, who could serve as the leader of the new team that is created. However, this could create two new controversies.
One of them is the tone that the new DC movies and series could have. Robert Pattinson’s Batman is, by far, more violent and darker than the one presented by Ben Affleck. No film from the nearly extinct DCU comes close in darkness and complexity to what Matt Reeves has done. Will Gunn and Safran’s plan follow the same path? Is that the great differentiator compared to previous works?
The other controversy is the identity of the new Batman. Ben Affleck will reprise the role of Batman in The Flash, and rumors recently surfaced of a possible return to DC. But in case Pattinson stays as the only Batman in the company, it is clear that Affleck would have nothing more to do in it. How would fans of the famous Battfleck react to news of that size?
For now, the Batman sequel is in the writing process. Director Matt Reeves has not given any preview of the script, nor has he commented on a possible release date. Would you like to see this dark version in DC’s new plans? Otherwise, what kind of Batman would be right for the famous 10-year plan?
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
