The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are here. Gone are the waves of rumors and leaks that surrounded both terminals before their presentation. Apple, during its California Streaming keynote, made the most “basic” models of the family official, although their characteristics will allow them to continue competing in the high-end echelons. Despite being the entry versions, both boast quite interesting news to distance itself from the previous generation.
First it is important to say that the devices retain much of the design of their predecessors. Except for the ‘notch’, that element so characteristic —and controversial— of the iPhone that finally saw its dimensions reduced. However, we will talk about this in depth later. As for the size, the screen measurements and OLED technology (Super Retina XDR) that we saw with the iPhone 12 are preserved. That is, 6.1 “inch for iPhone 13 and 5.4” for iPhone 13 mini. Of course, both give a jump in brightness to the 1,200 nits for HDR content.
Continuing with the panel specifications, the iPhone 13 achieves a resolution of 2532×1170 pixels, while his younger brother stays in 2340×1080. The refresh rate, meanwhile, remains at the 60 Hz. The latter is one of the characteristics with which Apple tries to make a difference with the higher-performance variants, since the iPhone 13 Pro will get on the 120 Hz train.
But let’s go to the biggest novelty of the front surface in terms of design: the ‘notch’ takes up less space throughout the range. It is 20% smaller, to be exact. However, the iPhone 13 mini is the one that most appreciates it as it is the terminal with the smallest dimensions of all. The screen takes more prominence and is a bet that its future owners will appreciate. For its part, the iPhone 13 also receives this change with “open arms.”
A15 Bionic, a brain capable of everything
The arrival of a new generation implies, of course, adopting a new processor. This year the iPhone 13 have as their brain the A15 5 nanometer Bionic and 15,000 million transistors; it is capable of processing up to 15.8 trillion operations per second. The SoC, of course, present to become the maximum exponent of the sector. According to the data provided by Apple, the CPU is 50% faster than the competitor’s proposals. The GPU is not far behind, being 30% faster than its direct rivals.
Those of Cupertino indicate that the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini integrate a new engine to process the image on the screen, without forgetting a Faster Neural Engine intended for artificial intelligence processing. In addition, the A15 Bionic has new video encoder / decoder.
Cameras that aim high, very high
Thanks to the A15 Bionic, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini can boast a photographic section better than ever. We go in parts. The first thing is the new 12 megapixel wide-angle camera with optical stabilization, a novelty previously exclusive to the Pro models. Thanks to the magnification of the lens, it is possible to capture 47% more light, which will be reflected in better photographs. For its part, the wide angle, also 12MP, has a new, faster sensor.
