While its announcement should take place in early September, the iPhone 12 has been a lot of talk lately, especially for the arrival of the 5G chip, new design and technologies.
But, another element could make a lot of noise: the OLED screen that will ship the range of Apple smartphones. Indeed, a new report reveals how LG is entering a market dominated by Samsung, reigniting the competition.
The iPhone 12’s OLED display marks a new turning point
Until now, the OLED phone display market has been largely dominated by Samsung, as it was one of the only players.
Only, LG will provide 20 million panels this year, five times more than last year … It must be said that by providing the iPhone 12 range, the group “announces a new era of competition in OLED”.
In any case, this is what the media Nikkei Asian Review claims, which states that LG is turning to Apple to stop Samsung’s domination:
Apple has decided to outfit this year’s lineup of iPhones entirely with OLED displays. LG Display, which has suffered six consecutive quarterly operating losses, is expected to meet much of this additional demand. The company will supply 20 million OLED panels this year, five times the volume of the previous year.
Currently, in the small and medium-size OLED display market, Samsung has a market share of over 80%.
