There is no denying that Honor was one of the stars of Huawei’s heyday. Born the warmth of the Chinese firm, it appeared with the aura of good prices and daring designs, which allowed it to gain credibility and market share in a more than acceptable way. They were days, speaking of Spain, where the strength that Xiaomi was taking was evident and those of Huawei saw in Honor a way to stand up to that new young brand that came to fight. The problem is that everything was rigged with Trump’s infamous measures that forced Huawei to rethink the business in ways it never imagined.
The brand changed hands in November 2020 when a Chinese consortium took over. Later, different market approaches, bet on laptops and who knows what else… but in the end everything, as we said, goes back to where it never had to leave, smartphones.
With good professionals
To begin with, the firm has had a brutal reinforcement of specialized personnel. Pablo Wang, who led Huawei’s growth in Spain, is now vice president of sales for Western Europe. For his part, Ramiro Larragán, former marketing director of Huawei Spain, is now the head of marketing for Honor Spain. In addition, we have no doubt that there will be only two of the list of professionals that will be incorporated throughout this year.
According to George Zhao …
Once the presentations were made, let’s get into the matter of what George Zhao told us in the barely half an hour that the interview lasted and where we were able to review the most important factors of the firm for its entry into the market. As always the happy, but necessary, issues of vetoes, Android and others was put on the table. It was clear from Zhao that we are talking about a new company, which “There will be complete and full access to Android”, including payment certificates and other factors. That said, Zhao is not beating around the bush and made it clear that with his high-end models “We want to compete with Apple and Samsung”, which makes clear the confidence you have in your new products.
The market
Along the same lines, we talk about the issue of market shares, a cornerstone of any brand that reaches the market. The CEO of Honor commented that “The brand has recovered very well in China with shares of around 15/16%, which we hope will happen in the 50 countries where we are present”. When talking about the international context and its arrival on the market, such as the American one, I make it clear that “Honor will launch worldwide, but first we will address Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa, Pacific … and only then do I think we will be ready to enter the North American market.” Obviously we could not leave aside the issue of the Spanish market, to which he replied: “Spain is a very important market for Honor, I hope that we will be able to gain market share quickly. We will launch our Honor 50 in Q4 this year and we have high hopes for it. ” The Spanish market where he took the opportunity to point out that “all our products will come standard with the charger included.” Thus settling an issue that has generated quite a bit of controversy in the most immediate past.
Let’s talk about marketing
Delving into the subject of marketing and other arguments to support the sales of the firm, the manager stated that “We are going to have global support from Qualcomm, they know that we are a globally appreciated firm and as Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, has confirmed to me, we will have their support guaranteed in all markets. A good marketing and difference argument for competition. ” In addition, he completed the information ensuring that the signature “Has more than 5,500 patents” assuming that from there will come differential elements in technologies such as GPU Turbo, which in its day gave a lot to talk about, cameras or fast charging. We sincerely think that the firm must be cooking something powerful in this matter to set the trend in the short term.
Products for the future
As always in this type of interview we try to find out what products or services the firm will launch in the future. A question that is always usually answered with certain evasions or generalities, which fortunately has not happened, since George assured us that “If we talk about product, it is a reality that foldables are popular and innovative products, so in the future you are sure that you will see Honor products in this format”
This was the small but intense exchange of opinions and questions that we had with the head of the firm worldwide to whom we wish the best in this new adventure, truncated by the decision of Mr. Trump who left us overnight. without possibly the best cameras on the market and without a brand like Honor that we loved. Now the story begins again and we hope that the past remains for history and the firm has a long and fruitful journey.
