Modi government may relax on some conditions of renewal process of International Driving Permit. The government said on Saturday that the International Driving Permit is going to ease the renewal process to give relief to the holder. The government has also stated that the terms of visa and medical certificate can also be removed for this.
According to the media reports, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has prepared a blueprint for this. An amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989 is being drafted.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a statement saying, ‘The Ministry has issued a draft notification. The process of renewing the International Driving Permit for citizens is being simplified, seeking suggestions for amendment of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989.
It has come to our notice that some citizens who are traveling abroad and are in another country, their IDP validity has expired and there is no system for its renewal abroad. The proposal will be amended in CMVR 1989 for the convenience of such citizens. Citizens can apply through the Indian Embassy / Mission Abroad Portals. After this, the concerned RTO (Regional Transport Offices) will consider the application.
