The Intel CEO hopes to win back Apple as a partner, although they will have to get closer to the M1 first.
More than a year ago Apple decided to bet on its own processors in the Mac range, depending less on Intel, the leading company in the industry in terms of manufacturing processors for computers. It was an important step from which the M1 was born, a chip that surprised everyone by being much more powerful and efficient than its alternatives at Intel.
However, the processor company does not want to give up and wants Apple to trust them again in the near future. As stated by the CEO of Intel in an episode of Axios from HBO, they hope to get Apple back as a partner in the futureAlthough to do so they will need to “make better chips than they do.”
Intel wants Apple to trust them again
Intel CEO, Pat gelsinger, sat down with the chief technology officer for Axios, Ina Fried, to discuss various topics, including Apple’s transition to its own processors. When asked about it, this was his answer:
I never give up on the idea that nothing doesn’t work with Intel chips. And, you know, we have our stumbles. Apple decided they could make a better chip themselves than we could. And, you know, they did a good job. So what I have to do is create a better chip than they can make themselves. I hope to win back this part of your business, as well as many other pieces of business, over time. And in the meantime, I have to make sure that our products are better than yours, that my ecosystem is more open and vibrant than yours, and that we create a more compelling reason for developers and users to land on Intel-based products. So, I’m going to fight hard to win Tim’s business in this area.
Do not forget that Intel has “started a war” against Apple in the form of advertisements and advertising campaigns. From signing familiar faces from Apple to attacking their own users. It doesn’t seem like a good strategy if you want them to trust you again. Although, despite these statements, I think we all know, including Intel, that Apple is not going to back down and will continue to manufacture its processors for a long time.
