samsung-display and Intel they are working on slider computersa concept that could revolutionize the PC market and on par with the trend of folding cell phones.
During Intel’s innovation speech at the end of September, the CEO of this area of the South Korean giant, JS Choi, appeared on stage to show a prototype computer that slides from a 13-inch tablet to a 17-inch screen.
A report published on the website of TheVerge quotes Choi’s statements: “We announceThe world’s first 17-inch slider screen for PC. This device will satisfy several needs for a larger screen and also portability.”.
Samsung has chosen to implement sliding rather than folding technology for its flexible computer screens. Choi seemed to indicate that “foldable is gone” from PCs, at least for now.
Intel’s experiments
Intel has been experimenting with new PC form factors for years and was initially preparing for a foldable, dual-screen future before Microsoft dropped its plans for Windows 10X on foldable devices.
These kinds of new form factors desperately need the software and apps to make them shine and it’s not yet clear how Intel will make slider PCs a reality, likely with a little help from Redmong’s company.
The prototype device that Samsung Display and Intel have essentially shown turns a 13-inch tablet into a 17-inch monitor with a flexible screen and sliding mechanism.
The slider computers themselves are just a concept for now and it is unknown when the companies will launch them, but they can certainly mark a before and after in the PC market. Are they the computers of the future?
