Instagram, Meta’s social network, continues to search for innovations and constant changes to surprise its users. He has taken up and adapted ideas from networks like Snapchat and TikTok, due to the popularity they have had and because they have generally worked well for them. Now Instagram is trying to adapt a function of the BeReal social network, to which Gen Z are migrating and considered the ‘anti-instagram’.
BeReal, a social network of French origin developed in 2020 by Alexis Barreyat and Kevin Perreau. It basically consists of users having 2 minutes to share more real photos of themselves without filters from their profile, that is, photos captured by their front and rear cameras in which other users see their day to day. Hence, its concept is considered contrary to what Instagram has been.
IG Candid Challenges or Glimpse?
IG Candid Challenges is (or was?) the name of the new feature that Instagram is testing and that it wants to take over from BeReal. According to information from Twitter user @ alex193a, who in his profile describes himself as a leaker, Instagram has been testing this feature since August 2022. The user’s leak shows the legend of the possible new feature.
“Add others’ IG Candid to your story feed. And every day at a different time, you get a notification to capture and share a photo in 2 minutes.”
On November 8, the same user mentions the function called Glimpse, which apparently is similar to the first one called IG Candid Challenges. The user clarifies that this new feature called Glimpse, would work the same as the previous Candid Challenges, so “I’m not sure if they will continue to work on that (Candid Challenges) as well, there have been no updates on that lately.”
This potential change has sparked debate among users of social networks, since Instagram, like BeReal, will also give its users 2 minutes to upload their photos, which they argue is a copy and not necessarily an adaptation.
While there is more information about the new update, what do you think about it, would you use this tool?
