In November of last year we found out that Instagram was going to launch paid subscriptions shortly. From words to deed, this week, the famous social network (owned by Goal) is going to start testing this new modality on a few US content creators.
In the middle of 2020, Facebook had launched Subscriptions to help creators earn money from the support of their fans. Now, with a good response on that social network, they decided to expand that model to Instagram.
Adam Mosseri, director of Instagram, explained that this year the constructions or updates that were made in the application were going to be focused on adolescents and content creators. Subscriptions benefit the latter group, as they will be able to “develop deeper connections with your most engaged followers and increase your monthly recurring income by giving subscribers access to exclusive content and benefits“.
Now, how would Subscriptions work? Once you subscribe to a creator, you will have three benefits (at least so far): Subscriber Stories, Subscriber Lives and Subscriber Badges.
–Subscriber Stories basically it’s about exclusive stories. The content creator uploads content only for those people who are subscribed. They can be identified with a purple circle that will surround the profile picture.
-Subscribe Lives similar to the previous one, only it is with the living. The creator makes a live only for your subscribers.
-Subscriber Badges It is the badge or badge that subscribers will have. This little purple tick would appear next to your name and will help the creator know that you are a subscriber. It can be seen in the comments, direct messages, or anywhere on Instagram.
As we said above, the social network subscriptions will initially be available to few creators in the United States: @alanchikinchow, @sedona._, @alizakelly, @kelseylynncook, @elliottnorris, @jordanchiles, @jackjerry, @bunnymichael, @donalleniii Y @lonnieiiv. If you have updated the most recent version of Instagram and you are not from the US you will be able to subscribe to one of these users starting tomorrow.
The Subscriptions feature creates a subscription button on the creator’s profile and allows you to set a monthly price of your choice. In addition, the social network will not charge any type of fee for these creator subscriptions until 2023.
Mosseri He clarified that they hope to expand these new features in the coming months and that they are also working on a way for content creators to take their list of subscribers to other applications or websites.
