In 2021, Instagram registered a number of Internet users of approximately 1.27 billion.
TikTok currently accumulates about 1.135 million users worldwide.
Social networks have become the most used digital tool in the entire world, that is why although these platforms have many benefits for society, they can also affect the mental health of their users. That’s been proven by a new study detailing how Instagram and TikTok can ruin people’s happiness and finances.
The total success of the different social networks that currently exist in the world is no secret to anyone, where a report by We Are Social and Hootsuiterevealed that there are 4.62 billion network users worldwide, which represents a year-on-year growth of more than 10 percent.
In that sense, said report details that the number of users of social networks is now equivalent to more than 58 percent of the total population of the world.
Do Instagram and TikTok ruin happiness and finances?
An investigation of the bank rate pageindicated that Instagram and TikTok are affecting the happiness and, in turn, the finances of visitors who produce content or simply watch it.
It also mentions that 64 percent of people who impulsively bought products promoted within the networks have regretted spending the money within a few minutes, especially when they see reviews of their products and these have negative points. , coming to the conclusion that they asked for something inferior to other brands and this affects both the mind and the bank account.
Given this, it is important to mention that TikTok registers 1,135 million users worldwide and is expected to continue an upward trajectory, according to data from Key Market Indicators. While Instagram registers a number of active users of approximately 1,270 million.
The report also showed that the age in which there is greater affectation is that of Generation Z, with 84 percent, followed by the Millennials with 77 percent. In third and fourth place are the Generation X and the Baby Boomerswith 55 percent and 38 percent, respectively.
Although social networks provide a great opportunity in various areas such as communication, learning, innovation, creativity, among others, can be very harmful to the mental health of users if they are not used well.
Like this study, there are others that demonstrate the negative impact that these digital sites can have, as an example the one carried out by the Center for Mental Health in the United Kingdom (Center for Mental Health) that collected the existing evidence regarding its impact (and its positive or negative nature), on the well-being of young people, looking at how they could mitigate the risks of social media and how it can be harnessed positively for the improvement of mental health and well-being.
In this sense, social platforms embrace a double reality, as the perfect image that millions of users strive to show, but it is also a very successful tool if used responsibly.
