According to a resolution published in the official newspaper, the increase in capacity in the stone citadel was confirmed, recognized as one of the seven wonders of the world.
“As you know, Machu Picchu is a World Heritage Site and the pride of Peru, and with this device we promote the entire tourism chain: more employment and economic reactivation at the regional and national levels,” said Sánchez.
According to the standard, the increase is made exceptionally until December 31.
The citadel was built in the times of the Inca emperor Pachacútec, in the fifteenth century, and, before the Covid-19 pandemic, Some 5,800 visitors entered it daily.
In 2021, 447,800 people visited the citadel, far from the 1.5 million it received in 2019, according to official figures.
In 2020, when it was closed for eight months due to the pandemic, it had only 274,500 visitors. In the first half of this year some 400 thousand people entered the citadel.
