Surgeons from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Chiapas performed abdominal reconstruction (abdominoplasty in Flor de Lis) on a 46-year-old woman. In his case, in 2018 he underwent Bagua-type bariatric surgery at the Siglo XXI National Medical Center.
The reconstructive plastic surgeon of the Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) No. 2, Alan Sostenes Vázquez, explained that this type of procedure is performed on patients with sequelae of massive weight loss. In the case of the beneficiary Aurora “N”, he mentioned that He lost approximately 110 kilos.
Type of abdominal reconstruction performed
He explained that the patient underwent a tummy tuck in Fleur de Lisin which both vertical and horizontal resection (in the shape of an inverted T) of excess skin is performed in the center of the abdomen as well as in the lower part, which makes it possible to repair the abdominal muscles and preserve the umbilical scar.
“We removed around five kilos of skin from the patient. It is a surgical procedure that took approximately four hours and in which a multidisciplinary team from HGZ No. 2 participated. Fortunately, in this hospital we have the necessary infrastructure, personnel, and material to carry out this type of reconstruction, and thus the patients they no longer have the need to transfer to one of our third level medical units”.
The doctor expressed that with this procedure the patient will recover her quality of life, since You will no longer be at risk of skin fold infections caused by weight loss. In addition to the fact that its repercussions on the spine will decrease, since five kilos have been removed from it and its physical appearance will benefit.
Evolution of the patient
He also assured that the patient is evolving favorably. She announced that in the coming months they could perform reconstructions in other parts of your body such as the breasts, extremities and back.
The patient, Aurora, originally from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, narrated that in 2017 she began to use a continuous positive airway pressure machine because she suffered from obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, which made her aware of her health, since previously she had been diagnosed with morbid obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypovitaminosis, arterial hypertension and gonarthrosis in the knees.
“The obesity was too much, I had more than 100 extra kilos and I slept with a respirator. In 2017 I had an appointment with an IMSS internist in Chiapas, who helped me a lot and, together with other specialists, referred me to the 21st century. I was attended by a multidisciplinary group of specialists such as endocrinologists, psychologists, nutritionists, among others. Thanks to this follow-up, I lost up to 152 kilos and may be a candidate for bariatric surgery.”
After the surgery, Aurora thanked all the Social Security personnel, those who treated her at the Siglo XXI National Medical Center and those of HGZ No. 2, known as “5 de mayo”, for their work, professionalism and human quality. .
