The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) presented the Comprehensive Care Protocols (PAI) for Chronic Diseases and its complications. Which establish guidelines that the health personnel of the three levels of care must apply in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. This, to beneficiaries with heart conditions such as high blood pressure, acute heart attack, cerebrovascular disease and diabetes mellitus.
PAIs are the result of doctors work, nursing staff, nutrition, social work, psychology and researchers, among others. Which, based on a scientific analysis systematized preventive health care to make it more secure, accessible, high-quality and effective.
These protocols are focused on early detection
On behalf of General Director of the IMSS, Master Zoé Robledo, the director of Medical Benefits, doctor Célida Duque Molina. She pointed out that EPIs focus on the three levels of carewith a strengthening of primary health care.

He pointed out that this work started from 2020 and in this one participate in its implementation the thousand 525 Family Medicine Units (UMF). The 243 Second Level hospitals and the 25 High Specialty Medical Units (UMAE).
The director of Medical Benefits of the IMSS highlighted that throughout the country, more than 100,000 professionals were trained for multidisciplinary health groups in the Comprehensive Care Protocols, with the purpose that this “have an impact on the control of diseases ”.
There will be a primary health care approach
He reported that 422 million people worldwide have Mellitus diabetes, 62 million of them live in America. He referred that the 2020 National Nutrition Survey indicates a significant increase in obesity in children under 5 years of age. In children aged 5 to 12 years and adolescents, with a predominance in males.
“We are facing a great challenge in terms of changing our diet, in terms of lifestyle and healthy habits,” he said.
For her part, Dr. Gabriela Borrayo Sánchez, coordinator of Innovation in Health of the IMSS, explained that through the PAI. It will have a primary care approach to health where medical and non-medical personnel participate with essential prevention activities. From the First Level for diagnosis and treatment to comprehensive rehabilitation.
Borrayo Sánchez referred that the PAI is a strategy to tackle priority diseases such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and its complications: acute myocardial infarction and cerebral vascular event.
He stressed that after two years of work, without stopping treating patients with COVID-19 and with a service recovery strategy. The Comprehensive Care Protocols were developed in parallel.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ruy López Ridaura, general director of the National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control of the Ministry of Health. He highlighted that since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic the need was seen for the programs to focus on prevention, promotion, timely detection and diagnosis at the three levels of care.
He added that “a sectoral effort is required for this type of protocol to be carried out”, by standardizing the strategy in an integral manner.
He stressed that the participation of all institutions will allow the promotion of a workforce so that training, supplies and equipment are standardized, in order to achieve universality in medical care.
