The day has come, the IMSS Cinema reopens! This Friday, January 20, the cinema reopens its doors to the public.Magic Lantern” located in the Independence Unit in the Magdalena Contreras mayor’s office of Mexico City. In addition to being a screening room, it will also extend its activities to workshops and seminars.
Currently the façade already looks illuminated and everything is ready for its first function. The tutelage of the Mexican Social Security Institute is not something random, it was one of the integral projects of the institution that, in addition to health, sought to improve the quality of life of the population.
The official inauguration took place yesterday, Thursday January 19, but it will be from January 20 that the public will be able to enjoy the activities.
The building remained abandoned for nearly 25 years, becoming an unhealthy space. With the aim of recovering public spaces for citizens, Patricia Ortiz Couturier, mayoress of Magdalena Contreras, signed an agreement with Zoé Robledo, head of the IMSS, to rehabilitate the space located in Unidad Independencia. According to the press release, “the space has two movie theaters, a bookstore, a book club, a cafeteria, and a lobby where temporary exhibitions will be housed.”
For his part, Robledo declared that it is a return to the origin of the IMSS, which built social housing, sports facilities, cinemas, parks and theaters. From the official’s perspective, Social Security should not be limited to financial reports, but to extend health to other areas of human life.
