Now that a new movie with the actor Idris Elbe is approaching, during promotional interviews, he has mentioned that not only is he no stranger to superhero movies, but the veteran actor is just starting out and that he has plans and desires that he would like to see reflected in his work.
And it is that, after his debut role in the comic of heimdall in 2011’s Thor, Elba continued his main supporting role in subsequent God of Thunder films, while also making brief appearances in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, so while he recently made a cameo appearance as Heimdall in the aforementioned Love and Thunder.
But it’s clear that Elba’s most notable active comic book movie role comes in the DC worlds, where he starred in Suicide Squad from 2021 as Bloodsport, a hit man who put Superman in ICU with a kryptonite bullet.
To begin with, the attempted assassination of Superman is what led to blood sport to jail, but it was never shown on screen, and if Elba has anything to say about it, he thinks Robert DuBois’ confrontation with the Man of Steel is a story worth telling. “I would definitely like to tell the Superman story. There is no question. Bloodsport versus Superman has to happen.”
That battle might be far from just a wish as well, as he recently mentioned that he has “something really important cooking for DC right now”and what is “really big thing” could be what the director of The Suicide Squad was referring to, James Gunnlast June.
“I am working very seriously on another DC project, where I am very involved in writing and directing”Gunn recently revealed. “There will be a mix of the Peacemaker characters in the other shows I’m working on. And I’m also involved with a couple of other things. [DC]”.
Now, as for Superman’s involvement in this potential project, the odds are uncertain, as the likes of Dwayne Johnson (Black Adam) and Zachary Levi (Shazam!) haven’t answered many of the questions regarding Clark Kentand the former even dropped the now infamous phrase “Depends on who plays Superman” at this year’s San Diego Comic.
So if everyone who wants a showdown with Superman gets their date with Kal-El, it looks like Elba will have to queue, as the line would be long, meanwhile, remember that Idris Elba’s next movie, Beast, is coming to theaters on August 19.
