Trademark registration is a key aspect to achieve the protection of a brand or the identity of a company.

It not only safeguards the reputation of brands, but also helps establish a unique identity that is easily recognizable by customers.

When registering your trademarks, it is important to also do so with the images, icons and drawings that are part of the identity.

History has numerous examples of famous images and portraits registered as trademarks.

One of the most famous, the portrait of Ernesto “Che” Guevara, the Argentine who led the Cuban revolution with Fidel Castro. Guevara’s unmistakable image has been registered as a trademark and is one of the most recognizable in the world.

In the early 20th century, Coca-Cola registered its iconic logo as a trademark. Featuring a cursive script and the brand name in a distinctive red and white color scheme, the logo has become synonymous with the brand and is instantly recognizable around the world.

One can also mention the Nike logo, a design as simple as it is iconic that has become one of the most recognizable worldwide over the years.

By registering logos, images and drawings as trademarks, companies can prevent others from using or copying their unique brand elements. This ensures that competitors do not dilute it with similar or identical brands.

Ibai Llanos protects his portrait

This week, the news regarding the registration of images came from Spain, where the streamer Ibai Llanos, one of the most recognizable voices in Spanish today for his video game broadcasts, decided to register his portrait.

That’s right, with his portrait, Llanos seeks to have the exclusivity to operate commercially with his image in all the markets of the European Union.

The winner of the “Best Streamer in the World” award at the 2020 Esports Awards, according to The newspaperprocessed the protection of his well-known face before the European Union Intellectual Property Office, whose headquarters are in Alicante, Spain.

It is a dark drawing on a light background where his beard and mustache stand out, as well as his hairstyle.

From now on, the image of the man born in Bilbao and a resident of Barcelona is limited for use by third parties in a wide range of products, from paper and clothing to video games and the metaverse.

In addition, Ibai reserved the use of his image for products related to gymnastics, sports, Christmas decorations, entertainment, design and computer equipment.

Llanos had already registered the trademark of his name and surname, as well as the word “Ibainéfico”, one of his solidarity projects through which he raises funds for Unicef.
