Ott Tänak’s words against Julien Moncet and his management have stung within Hyundai Motorsport. As much or more than the rumors that placed Eric Boullier at the head of the sports arm of the South Korean manufacturer to replace the Frenchman. so much that the brand has issued a statement denying this ‘speculative information’endorsing the role of Julien Moncet and conveying an image of cohesion that does not exist according to the words of Tänak and the situation of Thierry Neuville. For Hyundai, there is no crisis and everything is going perfectly.
The statement reads: “The following statement is made after the appearance of various speculative reports in the media about the management structure of Hyundai Motorsport. At the brand we continue to support our deputy director, Julien Moncet, which directs all organizational activities in the World Rally Championship (WRC), in the World Cup for Electric Touring Cars (FIA ETCR) and our ‘Customer Racing’ operations. He has recently achieved two consecutive victories in Finland and at the Ypres Rally, results that reward our efforts and show that we are going in the right direction, an idea that is supported by the comments of our staff».

They seem to ignore in Hyundai that Ott Tänak has recently assured that Julien Moncet is not the right person to direct the project of the brand in the WRC, even if the results are starting to appear. Also the situation that Thierry Neuville is going through and the frustration he accumulates for not achieving his first victory with the Hyundai i20 N Rally1, nor do they seem to give importance to the very discreet season of Oliver Solbergwith several quite strong accidents along the way, even if he finished fourth in the Ypres.
Curiously, Hyundai Motorsport closes the statement leaving the door open to possible additions or restructuring within the project, always without mentioning any name: «This does not prevent us from seeking to strengthen our organization at the same time.reviewing the internal and external possibilities that exist with the aim of laying solid foundations for the future of our operations in rallies and circuits. Any changes made to our team structure will always be made public through an official statement.».
A full-fledged Hyundai runaway, given the times that are managed from the brand. In the event that the signing of Eric Boullier takes place, as has already been taken for granted by different media, the brand will be able to claim that at the time of this communication the hiring of Boullier was not yet closed. Furthermore, if this situation arises, Julien Moncet may be relocated to a position closer to his profile. For his part, if the signing does not take place, everything will remain the same and Julien Moncet will continue in command, also endorsing in public for the brand.
