Huawei has just unveiled a new member of the P40 range, the P40 Pro +. This variant is exactly the same dimensions as the classic P40 Pro (158.2 x 72.6 x 9 mm) and offers exactly the same technical data sheet as the latter, with four exceptions.
The first change, immediately visible, are the two new black and white ceramic colors. A stronger material than glass. Huawei has also improved fast wireless charging from 27W to 40W. In addition, the smartphone is not offered in 128 GB + 8 GB RAM unlike the classic P40 Pro.
Huawei P40 Pro +: better zoom, ceramic colors and faster wireless charging
But the biggest innovation is undoubtedly to look for on the side of the main photo module. The brand goes from four to five sensors. This allows Huawei to deliver what the brand calls 100x SuperZoom. This is a hybrid zoom that is based on two telephoto lenses. A first 8 Mp periscopic sensor allows a 10x optical zoom, while the second allows a 3x zoom.
The P40 Pro actually had a unique 12 Mp periscope sensor instead. The smartphone can then mobilize the AI cores of its Kirin 990 processor to interpolate the images of these two sensors and achieve much larger usable enlargements up to 100x. The rest of the module is identical: it also has a main 50 MP sensor and an ultra-wide-angle 40 MP sensor.
The smartphone is on pre-order in China at the price of 7988 yuan (1005 €) for the 8/256 GB version and 8888 yuan (1118 €) for the 8/512 GB version. It will go on sale on the Chinese market on Saturday 6 June. The brand has already announced that the smartphone will be launched internationally on a date which is not yet fixed.
