Although it may not seem like it at first, it is a very simple process that you can complete in less than 5 minutes.
- First of all, you must enter the Hard Disk Management option found within our graphical interface. To do this, you must open the Windows quick access menu using the following key combination “Windows + X “. You can also access this option by right-clicking on the start menu button.
- Then you will see that I know how to display a menu with several options. Click on “Disk Management”
- Now, a window will open in which we can see in the form of a list all the partitions, hard drives, removable drives and any other drive for storing information on our PC.
- Just below this list is a graphical representation of the partitions that are available on the computer. In this case, you can select the partitions you want to delete. It should be noted that they will surely be identified with a dark blue stripe.
- Once you have identified the partition to be deleted, click on it with the right button and select the option « delete volume «
- A pop-up window will then appear with the following message “If you delete this volume, the data on it will be erased.” Select the “yes” option to continue with the process. Later we will see that space, where the partition that we have deleted was, will be left with a black stripe.
- If you want to erase all partitions on the hard drive, then you have to repeat the previous step several times.
- We are not done yet! A whole hard disk with a space with the black stripe is not useful, since it requires a format. For this, you must right click on this black strip and select the option « New simple volume «
- Next, a wizard will appear on the screen that will guide us through the process to create a new partition. To start we click on the option « Next «
- Then we will have to choose the amount of space assigned to the new partition. It is also mandatory to assign a new letter to it since otherwise, the volume will not be useful for saving files.
- To finish, click on the option ” Format with the following settings ” and then on “NFTS” and “default”. Then you have to add a letter and a quick format.
- In this way, we have finished the process to delete the partitions and create a new one without problems.

- This mode gives us the opportunity to install several operating systems on the same PC. This is only possible if we have several secondary partitions since normally computers come with the main operating system installed on the primary partition.
- On the other hand, it also helps to improve the performance of our team. This is because if we have a hard drive with a large storage capacity, the reading heads will have to travel further. On the other hand, if within that same disk we have several partitions, then there will be a lesser delay in reading the stored data.
- Another important advantage of having several partitions is that we can save our data in case the system suffers a serious failure. This consists of having at least two partitions, one for data and one for the operating system.
