The computers or devices that you can use in your day to day are not exempt from having a virus within the system. You have to be very careful when downloading files, programs, videos, and any other type of content, as it could be harmful to computers.
Well, a virus can alter the proper functioning of computers and devices, delete or damage programs and files, or what is even more distressing, hide them. Generally, the instrument most susceptible to presenting this uncomfortable situation is the USB stick or USB.
Either to move content from one computer to another quickly and easily, to edit or print a file from a computer other than yours, if the computer is not properly protected, what you store could be in danger.
I can’t find my files!
Not everything is lost. There are programs that help remove these viruses. However, there is a good chance that they will also completely delete the files you need.
To see and show files hidden by viruses, you can recover files hidden by viruses using Windows 10 file explorer or any other version of this operating system. The first thing to do is:
- Connect the device to your computer (if applicable).
- Go to the ” Equipment ” section, so that you can enter the USB device.
- Once there, locate the folder where the file that has been hidden by this malware was.
- Locate the ” View ” section at the top left of your screen. This is in case you use Windows 10.
- Once you can click on the section indicated above, another menu divided into 4 sections will be displayed along the toolbar: Panel, design, current view, show or hide and options.
- Within the ” Show or hide ” section, you will see a set of checkboxes: Item boxes, file name extensions and hidden items.
- Select the hidden items box. In this way, all those files hidden by the malware will appear.
Alternatives to view and recover your hidden files
Another option to make files hidden by malware appear without having to download and use a program for them, in addition to having a good antivirus for USB memory sticks, is the following:
- Press the Windows and R keys.
- This will bring up the Run box on your screen.
- In this box you are going to enter the command: ” cmd ” (without quotes or periods)
- This command will bring up another box that opens the command prompt.
- Enter the following command: -h -r -s / s / dc: \ documents.
It is important that you know that c:\documents is the command for the disk and the folder in which the file was located. So if the file is on another disk and another folder, you must change it. For example: e:\work
It is important that you know that this will not eliminate the malware, so your device will continue to be infected and this problem can continue to appear every time you connect the device to your computer. It can even infect other computers, causing the same problem on each of them.
It is for this reason that it is normally recommended to enter the devices to computers that have antivirus and to be able to analyze the device before entering it to open or modify the files and programs that you have stored.
USB Show, USB Rescate, among other programs, are recommended to try to recover and show files that have been hidden by malware, as well as delete them.
In the case of USB Rescate, its portable version is very useful if your day to day is based on going to sites to print documents, whose computers do not have antivirus and your device can potentially be infected.
