If you want to know exactly which applications consume more data on your Android or iOS mobile, in this article we will show you how to do it. In addition, we will give you some recommendations that you can use so that those precious data last until the end of the month.
How to know which applications consume the most data on Android
Android includes from its oldest versions a native option to know the use of data made by apps installed on a mobile. For that reason, you don’t need to install a third-party app. To get started, just go to your device’s settings.
From here, the path is somewhat different for each phone brand, because for some reason, manufacturers love to change the name of some settings. On pure Android, follow the path Network and Internet → Data usage.
If the name of your mobile settings are not the same, you can use logic to get to the correct destination. You can also make use of the internal search engine that your mobile has; Click on the magnifying glass icon and type “Data.” In most cases, the option we want to get to appears: data usage.
In this section you will be able to visualize by means of a graph the total amount of mobile data you have used in a certain period of time. Press the option «Use of mobile data». Once there, a list will appear that will show you individually the applications that have consumed the most data in the period of time you have selected.
To know more about a specific app, you can click on it; Then you will go to another tab that will show you how much data that app used while it was in the foreground (when you were using it) and in the background (when you were not using it).
How to know which applications consume the most data on iOS
In the apple operating system, the process is a little simpler, since it is the same in almost all versions. If you want to see which apps consume the most data on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → Mobile data.
Once there, the system will show you the total data used by all the apps in the period of time you choose. You will also see a list of the applications that consume the most data, ordered in descending order.
By selecting one, you can check how much data that app has consumed in the foreground and background, information that will help you know when they are using more than they should. It is also very important that you learn how to save mobile data on your iPhone or other iOS devices.
What to do to reduce the amount of data that some applications consume
Regardless of whether you have an Android or iOS mobile, one thing is certain when it comes to data usage: we all want to manage our income well to make ends meet. For that reason, both operating systems give us several options to control the amount of data we use. We will explain some of them below.
Option 1: set a data consumption limit on Android or iPhone. You can do it from the menu you entered previously. That way, when you reach a certain amount, for example 70% of your total income, the mobile will notify you. This way you can make a more conscious use of the data that is available to you.
Option 2: restrict background data usage for specific apps. To do this, you just have to enter the previous menu, select a specific app, Instagram for example, and deactivate the data in the background.
That way, the app won’t request mobile data when you’re not using it. This means that it will not sync automatically, but only when you start it directly. Another good option would be to turn data on and off to reduce consumption.
You can also close all background applications with KillApps, an exceptional tool for this situation.
Option 3: prohibit a specific app from using mobile data. The latest versions of Android and iOS allow you to do this. If you consider that an app should not use mobile data, you can prohibit it from doing so by entering the previous menu. That way, the application will only connect to the Internet via Wi-fi.
