Google has managed to forge, thanks to its applications and services, a powerful ecosystem. With the same Google account, you can check your email, plan your next vacation, listen to your favorite music or keep your memories safely. Perhaps, one of the strongest points of this conglomerate of services is the capacity that they have to collaborate with each other.
One of these most interesting collaborations is the one established between Google Maps and Google Photos. You probably know that most of the photographs you take with your mobile phone are associated with a label that allows you to know the exact place where they were taken. Until now, this information was available in Google Photos in a very limited way. However, it is now possible to view it also using Google Maps integration in the Photos application.
HOW TO SEE WHERE A PHOTO WAS TAKEN IN GOOGLE PHOTOS
Before moving on to integrating Maps into Google Photos, it is important that you know how to view the location of your photos individually. First, make sure you have the latest version of Google Photos installed on your device. Thus, it will be much easier for you to follow the steps that we provide in this guide. To see the geolocation of any photo in Google Photos, do this:
- Select any photo in your library.
- When you are on the viewing screen, swipe up. This will open the information section of the image file.
- Under the Location section, you will see a small map and, above it, the place where the photograph was taken will appear marked.
- If you want to enlarge the map, click on it or use the Open in Maps link.
If the map does not appear in this section, it may be for a number of reasons. For example, maybe the selected photo was taken from a camera without a GPS connection. On the other hand, your mobile device may have location services disabled or the camera application does not have this setting enabled. Finally, if the image comes from an external source, such as Facebook or Instagram, it is unlikely that the file will have this information.
HOW TO SEE A COMPLETE MAP OF YOUR PHOTOS
Once we have explained how to see the location of each of your photographs, you have to know how to do it taking advantage of the integration of Google Maps in Google Photos. This new feature uses two key pieces of information to create a map with your photos: the geolocation tag of each file and the Google location history.
To access your personal map in Google Photos, follow these steps:
- Tap on the Search section located in the bottom navigation bar.
- Next, click on Your map.
- Browse the map to find the location of your photos. At the bottom are the photos were taken at the selected location and the days they were captured.
If, after taking these steps, you cannot access the Your map section, check that you have version 5.23 of Google Photos installed. Otherwise, the method we explain in this article will not work.
To get much more out of this function, you need to have the location history activated. Thanks to it, Google can trace the route you followed when taking your photos and the information displayed will be much richer in detail. Without a doubt, this feature is perfect to reminisce about your trips or excursions. If you previously disabled this feature, you must visit the My Account page to enable it again.
