Until recently, most PCs around the world had a unique IDE-type hard drive, which at the time were conventional and had Windows as the operating system.
In addition, we can find certain differences in those devices, where users could choose a SCSI hard drive and thus obtain a higher speed in terms of data transfer.
If you have a computer and you are looking for more information about the hard drive, here we will help you a little with it.
How do I know what hard drive I have in Windows?
If you are working with this operating system, there may be a very easy way to check what are the characteristics of our hard drive. For this we must resort not only to the “disk manager” but also to the ” optimizer ” of it. In order to apply this system you must follow the steps:
- Start by pressing the Windows start button, which you can locate in the lower left section.
- When you are in the search space you must write the word ” Optimize units “
- Once there, you just have to choose the Windows tool that gives you the results shown.
Immediately, you will see that the window or, failing that, the interface of this tool will open. In it you can optimize your hard drive with total normality and ease. By going to the top of said interface, you will be able to find a list with all the hard drives that have been installed inside your personal computer.
In an easy way, you can identify the one who has the SSD technology, but, nevertheless, being there will not be the same situation for others there. Although it will be very easy for you to know which ones are not of the S-ATA type, since in a very difficult way a computer of the SSD type could coexist with an IDE one.
How do I know if I have an SSD or a HDD?
- Once you have identified the brand and model of your hard drive, it is time to find out if you have a traditional HDD hard drive, or a solid SSD drive, since both have differences between them. To do this, you have several options at your disposal, for example:
- Informing you from the Windows drive optimization tool
- In Windows operating systems, open the “optimize drives” tool, and it will provide you with the necessary information on whether it is a HDD or an SSD hard drive.
Using CrystalDiskInfo
The first thing you should do is download it, then run it and look at the ” rotation speed ” parameter . If when viewing this parameter, it has a numerical value of 7,200 or 5,400 RPM, it means that said disk rotates at those revolutions per minute.
Based on this, an HDD disc has plates, which rotate, and therefore this means that this is a traditional HDD. If, on the contrary, the parameter indicates “(SSD)”, it will not be necessary to say much more, since for that reason it will not show any figure that is relative to the revolutions per minute of said disk.
The options that we show you here are all valid and easy to use depending on your device. However, the CrystalDiskInfo program is one of the best due to its functionality and the usefulness of its use. It is also known that it provides more information, such as the rotation speed, which are important in determining the reading and writing speed of said disk.
Likewise, if we have a HDD disk, this program will warn us if any of them is at risk for some kind of malfunction and that with it a loss of data or an imminent failure of the entire system may occur.
