The disappearance of Adobe Flash Player support is a reality since it has ended on January 13, 2021. Websites created with Flash are a thing of the past, and by default, they will stop working, but there is a way to continue using Flash Player on your computer.
Flash Player has been an ally in terms of web design, but it is true that the arrival of HTML5 superseded Flash Player and webs became much more attractive and less heavy, so they loaded much faster.
Next, we will see how we can continue to run Adobe Flash Player on our computers in order to directly access the websites that have been created with this technology, but at your own risk and expense, as Flash currently has numerous security problems.
Flash Player in Google Chrome with Ruffle
Google Chrome was one of the browsers compatible with Flash Player, but Chrome has natively blocked it. So it will be necessary to use an extension to continue using Flash on our computer if we need it:
- Download the Ruffle extension for Chrome from the website of its creators, which is free, but not available in the official Chrome Web Store:
- Once downloaded you will have to add it to Chrome.
- For this, we will have to go to the extensions manager by clicking on the menu with three vertical dots that appear in the upper right corner of Chrome.
- Now click on “More tools”.
- Then in “Extensions”.
- Now you must click on “Load unzipped”.
- The next step will be to choose the folder that we have previously downloaded, which we must unzip, either with the native Windows tools or through other programs to unzip files.
- Once selected, Chrome will automatically install the Ruffle extension and from now on we will be able to continue viewing Flash content on the web.
Flash Player in Firefox with Ruffle
Another of the browsers compatible with Flash Player is Mozilla Firefox, in which we can adjust, as in Chrome, the options to run Flash content within the browser.
The problem that Firefox has is that to add unsigned extensions such as Ruffle we must install the browser in its version for developers, follow the indicated steps:
- We download and install Firefox Developer Edition, which is free and works independently of the standard version of Firefox:
- We download the Ruffle extension for Firefox, again it is necessary to do it from the website of its creators.
- Now once opened, we will have to click on the “bars” of Firefox configuration.
- Then we will click on “Complements”.
- Next, we choose “Extensions”.
- Next step, click on the icon of a gear.
- We select the option “Install plugin from file”.
- We select the Ruffle extension previously downloaded and we will have Ruffle in Firefox to view Flash content.
