One of the most useful functions that different television platforms offer us today is the possibility to download content on a device to view them later offline (when we travel by plane, for example). And that option we not only have in OTTs like HBO or Netflix, but also in the television services of the operators.
Orange TV added it recently and Movistar + has been offering it for years, but today we are going to stop at Vodafone TV, which has given us this possibility since 2019. Next, we explain how download movies and series on an iOS or Android device and how to view them later.
How to download content and how to watch it offline
Regardless of the Vodafone TV package you have contracted or the channels included in it, the operator allows you to download movies and series on a smartphone or tablet to watch them later, without the need for an internet connection and, therefore, without consuming data.
To do this, it is essential to have the Vodafone TV multi-device service activated through the client area of the website or in the ‘My Vodafone’ app. You also have to download the free app ‘Vodafone TV’ on the phone or tablet where you want to have / have / see the content.
Once we have completed those two steps, we open the ‘Vodafone TV’ app and start the download by following these steps (the process is the same on iOS and Android):
In the ‘Explore Vodafone TV’ section, search the show, episode or movie you want to download and access its file.
Check that content is available to download (it is not the entire catalog, far from it); If so, the ‘Download’ icon and the ‘Download’ option will appear among those shown at the bottom.
If it is available for download, click on ‘Download’ and a warning will appear. Tap on ‘OK’ and the download will begin instantly.
What this warning tells us -that you can deactivate the first time so that it does not appear again- is that the downloads are only made with the app open and in the foreground. That is, if the device screen is locked or you open another app, the download will be paused and resumed the next time you open ‘Vodafone TV’. In addition, the operator recommends connecting to a 5GHz WiFi network to make it faster.
You can also see what content is available entering the ‘Explore Vodafone TV’ section and going down to the ‘Downloadable content’ section. There you will find all the titles that you can download, classified by series, cinema, children’s series and documentaries.
Once the download is finished, the content will be available in the section ‘My TV’> ‘Downloads’, very bottom. There you will be able to see all the movies and series that you have downloaded.
To see them, click on any of them and, on your tab, tap on ‘View’; there it is also possible to check when you downloaded it and delete the download. When the playback has started, you can activate the subtitles or change the language.
Something important that you should know is that, since the download is made, you have 30 days to view the content before it is removed. Also, once the content starts playing, you have 48 hours to watch it before it disappears from your downloads.
