It is very possible that we want to deactivate notifications when a new contact joins Signal because they can be quite numerous, and we usually save many numbers of people with whom we do not want to talk through Signal.
We have already presented Signal as an alternative to WhatsApp, with better privacy, to which more and more users are joining, as they are concerned that the popular messaging application wants to share our personal data with Facebook.
At the time we indicated how to eliminate notifications of “A contact joined” in Telegram, and in Signal the process is very similar. By default, every time a contact saved in our phonebook is registered for the first time in Telegram, a notice appears, which can be annoying.
So we will see how to disable this behavior in a few very simple steps:
- On the main Signal screen, click on the icon with three vertical dots in the upper right corner:
- We choose “Settings” in the drop-down menu that opens:
- We go to the “Notifications” section on the screen that appears:
- On the screen that appears, we will go down to the “Events” section, there we must deactivate “Someone starts using Signal” so that notifications stop arriving when any contact registers in the app:
- Sometimes the notifications section of Signal does not display well, and there is a blank space at the end that can make it difficult for us to find this setting. We must keep going down, and at the end of all we will see the possibility of deactivating the notices when a new contact joins.
Signal’s interface is very simple, similar to any instant messaging application, and new contact notifications are one of the few aspects that other platforms do not include, so it is normal to have doubts about how to deactivate the function.
Our advice is to deactivate the notifications of new contact as soon as we join Signal because they are quite annoying unless we are interested in knowing instantly which of our contacts are registered. In addition, we must remember that there are more alternatives to WhatsApp, although none with such a high level of privacy.
