The digital age is a time when our data is exposed daily. Since documentary, bank data or even images on social networkswe are subjected to the transit of said data on a daily basis via smartphones, tablets and computers.
Due to such exposure, we daily receive various tips on how to take care of our personal data, what precautions we should take to prevent our data from being “stolen”. Everybody knows that we should not click on suspicious links, that we cannot store passwords on our cell phones without good protection or believe in tempting offers and job offers to earn a lot without leaving home.
Even so, digital scams do not stop growing. Every week we come across new scams and victims. And what remains is to redouble the care and follow all the safety advice more carefully.
Francisco Gomes Júnior, partner of OGF Advogados, reinforces the importance of being aware that the digital world has a visible layer, with laws and regulations that is the Web or the internet that we know, with identifiable websites and IP, but that under that layer they exist “Other worldsknown as the Deep Web and the Dark Webwhich we cannot see and which can only be accessed by people with high digital knowledge.
“And I warn you, our data has a security guarantee only in the legal part of the internet, where the LGPD (General Data Protection Law) grants us a series of guarantees. In the other layers we are vulnerablesays Francisco Gomez.
The Deep Web is the layer of the web where the databases of companies and governments are located. These are contents that are hidden, but that are not, in principle, illegal. The Dark Web is a deeper layer, quite hidden and only accessible by non-traditional browsers. The Dark Web is frequented by criminals who trade everything through an illicit market, such as weapons, drugs, pedophilia images and, of course, personal data.
On the Dark Web are cybercriminals. Personal data can be bought in packages, but the crime goes further.
Francisco also recalls that malicious software, stolen accounts, credit cards and cyber espionage are currently being offered.
“For example, to hack a corporate or personal computer, an average of USD 500 to USD 3,500 is charged. For these prices they also offer to hack cell phones, hack emails, hack social networks and even messaging applications. From $300 it is possible to hack WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook accounts“.
The statement is terrifying, but true. More and more we must take care of our personal data, redouble care and, surprisingly, in the digital age, not concentrate data and passwords on the same device, but keep them outside any network. Hackers are now offering illegal services to, they say, ruin the life of someone else the contractor wants. They say they can spread false information and images on social media, expose financial data and, at the limit, plant compromising photos on people’s devices.
“More than ever, we have to redouble care”, Francisco ends.
