In the second quarter of 2023, Mexico City continues to be an economic epicenter in Mexico, with an employed population of 4.71 million people.
One of the most relevant aspects for the inhabitants of CDMX is the average monthly salary, which according to the Ministry of Economy stood at $4,600 pesos on average.
This data concentrates the total labor income in the metropolis, divided between all formal and informal workers. But in reality salaries can vary depending on economic activity, preparation, formality and informality of the job, among other variables.
Competitiveness in CDMX
The economic competitiveness of a region plays a crucial role in the quality of life of its residents. According to the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), CDMX stands out as one of the most competitive entities in the country, with a competitiveness index of 63.59. This high level of competitiveness has allowed the capital to remain the most competitive entity in Mexico for 21 consecutive years, according to the State Competitiveness Index.
CDMX, attractive for nearshoring
Furthermore, the Bank of Mexico considers that Mexico City is the third metropolitan area with the greatest propensity to receive the benefits of nearshoring , only after Saltillo and Monterrey. Therefore, it is considered that the country’s capital could benefit from the arrival of Foreign Direct Investment and, therefore, more employment opportunities.
