Miles Morales and a long list of Spider-people are now in theaters! If you were fascinated with the adventures of the animated arachnid in 2018, surely you already have your tickets to see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse). In addition to a very emotional story, various animation styles, and an infinite number of characters, there is a very good reason to see the film if you are Mexican. Several countrymen worked to create this tape, which is already among the best of the year.
Creating so many characters, styles, textures, and settings is not an easy task. And even less when it comes to a tape as peculiar as this one, where it literally feels like watching a comic on the screen. Dozens of Mexicans participated in the animation process, including Cruz Contreras. The animator born in Iguala, Guerrero, also collaborated with Sony Pictures in the first film, where only 25 Mexicans collaborated for the character effect.
Thanks to it being a much more ambitious sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse had 40 talented Mexicans on the team. Contreras points out that each one of them is there thanks to a “success story and improvement.” Here are some of the names that make up the great team led by Sony.
- Cruz Contreras (Costume Design and Character Hair): Guerrero
- Miralda Medina (Composition): Guanajuato
- Héctor Abraham Torres (Character Rigging): Coahuila
- Katia Cisneros (3D Animation): Jalisco
- Isaac Miranda (Motion Graphic/Matte Painting): Morelos
- Rosa Castillo (Lighting and Comp): Michoacán
- Leticia Maycotte (CFX): Coahuila
“There could not have been a better result than the one we achieved. If, per se, we were doing new things in A New Universe, we now held the bar higher. We had to create something even newer. But I enjoyed it a lot. This project is the biggest we’ve ever done. The project where everyone wants to work, not just people from Sony. The animators who are currently studying and working have a lot of respect for this Spider-Man for everything he has revolutionized,” Contreras commented in an interview for Estilo DF.
Let us remember that, in the delivery of the Oscar 2019, Spider-Man: A New Universe it became the winner of Best Animated Feature. She surpassed major movies like the incredibles 2 and Isle of Dogs, and also broke the winning streak of animations from Disney or Pixar, successful companies in the previous 6 years. Thanks to the first reactions, which place Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse As the best arachnid movie ever made, it is not unreasonable to think that the film could repeat the award and catapult the career of its Mexican animators.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse It is now available in all theaters in Mexico.
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
