Between rains, hot or muggy days, we tell you how you can know if your baby is hot or cold in a practical and safe way.
One of the most frequently asked questions by parents, especially when they are first-timers, is how to know if your baby is hot or cold. Perhaps common sense makes us think that if we are cold, they too; the same for heat. However, we must understand that it is not the right way.
Babies’ temperature is not the same as ours, largely because they cannot yet regulate it and because their blood circulation is barely developing. Therefore, it is not good for you to make the comparison. To determine the temperature of your baby, beyond using a thermometer to know if it is cold or hot, the normal thing is to do it through touch.
The best way to find out if you need more coat is by touching your legs, arms, or neck. Loss of color in the cheeks can also indicate that the baby is going cold. Still, you should keep in mind that, due to their circulation, practically all babies have cold feet and hands.
To find out if your baby is hotter than usual, you can feel his tummy and forehead, as well as possibly sweat a little on his head and be in a bad mood. If so, it is recommended to take him to a cool room, remove his clothes, give him air with a fan and make him drink a lot of liquid. If your temperature does not change, use the thermometer and see your doctor if necessary.
