It is very important that, when making the balm, we respect the exact amounts of the ingredients since, if we exceed it, we could obtain adverse results
Itching, eczema, dandruff, hair loss, dryness or excess sebum, pimples… There are many problems that we can have on the scalp. For this reason, we explain how you can make a homemade and natural balm at home to treat them.
Discover in this article what ingredients it has, how you can make it and how you should apply it to notice a great improvement in a very short time.
A natural and effective homemade balm
The balm that we propose in this article is very easy to prepare and is made with 100% natural ingredients.
Plus, it’s far more effective than any shampoo that promises miraculous results. These conventional products also contain sulfates, parabens and silicones that damage the hair and unbalance the pH and the production of natural sebum.
This homemade balm is, therefore, a natural treatment that we can perform to treat problems of the scalp that lead to irritation, inflammation or desquamation, as well as to regulate sebum and improve capillary circulation.
Ingredients
To prepare the homemade balm and have the texture we need, we will need the following proportions:
- 6 ½ tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil (100 g)
- 20 drops of rosemary essential oil.
- 15 drops of tea tree essential oil.
- 30 drops of castor oil.
- 30 drops of lemon juice.
- 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel (30 g)
1. coconut oil
The coconut oil extra virgin is a food that can not miss in our diet or among our cosmetic products as it has numerous health benefits.
It is a highly hydrating ingredient that is easily absorbed in all skin types, as well as having sebum-regulating and antibacterial properties.
2. Rosemary essential oil
Rosemary is a medicinal plant that, applied to the scalp, improves blood flow, prevents falls and enhances growth.
The infusion of this plant has been used since ancient times for these and other purposes, such as preventing the appearance of gray hair.
3. Tea tree essential oil
This essential oil helps us combat all hair disorders caused by bacteria and fungi, such as dandruff. It even helps us to get rid of lice.
Its antifungal and antibacterial properties are very powerful on any part of the body, but always for external use.
4. Castor oil
This oil has a very dense texture, but when mixed with the rest of the ingredients we facilitate its application.
It is excellent for strengthening the hair root and promoting growth. It is also used a lot on eyelashes for the same purpose.
5. Lemon juice
Fresh lemon juice is a cleansing and purifying remedy that helps us eliminate excess fat thanks to its astringent properties, as long as we use it to the exact extent, as it could otherwise dry out and cause irritation.
6. Aloe vera
The gelatine contained in the leaves of the aloe vera plant is used to hydrate and calm the skin without greasing it, since it is a watery type. It also has healing properties that enhance the regeneration of the skin.
The ideal is to use natural aloe vera gel, but we can also buy it in herbalists or pharmacies, trying to make it as natural as possible.
How do we make it?
- We will put the coconut oil in the water bath so that it melts, which will happen from 22 ºC.
- At that time we will turn off the fire and add the rest of the ingredients.
- We will mix them well and let the mixture cool.
- We will preferably keep it in the fridge.
How do we use this homemade balm?
- We should apply this homemade balm once or twice a week.
- We will smear it all over the scalp, massaging it with some pressure in the form of circles.
- Only the roots need to be covered, not the rest of the hair.
- Next, we will cover our heads with a shower cap or plastic and with a towel or handkerchief to keep warm.
- We will let you act for at least half an hour, although we can have it even all night if it doesn’t bother us.
- To remove it we will wash our hair with our usual shampoo, once or twice if we still have traces of the balm.
- We will do the treatment for at least a month.
