UA Academy students will soon leap from the world of manga and anime to the big screen with a live-action adaptation that already has a home on streaming. Netflix announced the acquisition of the distribution rights of the film live action of My Hero Academya preparing Legendary Pictures.
The project will be directed by shinsuke Satōwho has made a name for himself in the Japanese industry with adaptations live action from other renowned manga titles. His filmography is made up of films such as Gantz (2011), I Am a Hero (2016), Death Note: Light Up the New World (2016), bleach (2018), inuyashiki (2018) or Kingdom (2019); as well as the television adaptation of Alice in Borderland for netflix.
Joby Haroldwhose credits include King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017), the army of the dead (2021) and the series Obi Wan Kenobi, is writing the script. Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter are producing the film for Legendary Pictures; meanwhile, Ryosuke Yoritomi, the manga editor My Hero Academiawill oversee the adaptation on Shueisha’s behalf.
Although there are no confirmed cast members yet, there is talk that the project could star Japanese-American actors.

The franchise My Hero Academia originates from the homonymous manga by Kōhei Horikoshi, which is serialized in the pages of the magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 2014. Shueisha has collected the story into 36 volumes so far. The new chapters can be read at simulrelease in the Manga Plus application, while Panini Manga publishes the print in Mexico.
The story takes place in a world where 80% of the population has some kind of superpower; among the exceptions is Izuku Midoriya, an aspiring superhero who was born without any “gifts.” Fortunately, “Deku” manages to get the attention of All Might, the No. 1 hero, who has a plan to help the young man enter UA High School, a school specializing in the professionalization of future superheroes.
The franchise has multiple spin offs within the manga, light novels, video games and an anime adaptation composed to date of six seasons and three feature films: My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018), My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising (2019) and My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission (2021).
