TikTok was one of the spaces that grew the most in relevance during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Social networks have become an essential tool in people’s lives, which is why it is normal for new applications to become popular. In recent weeks several applications have gained users in the midst of the controversy around Twitter, giving rise to the name of Hive, a social network that has increased the number of its users.
According to data from a report by We Are Social and Hootsuite revealed that there are currently 4 thousand 620 million of network users worldwide, representing a year-over-year growth of more than 10 percent.
The origin of social networks is marked by the desire to bring people together and dates back almost a decade before the launch of Facebook. In 1995, Randy Conrads started Classmates.com. with the idea of helping people to rediscover old companions.
According to iebs, those who lead the ranking of the most used social networks are TikTok, with 90 percent; Facebook, with 87 percent; and YouTube, with 68 percent, the latter being the one with the most young followers (76 percent are between 16 and 30 years old). Instagram, in third place, has gained more users, from 49 percent to 54 percent. In fourth and fifth place is Twitter, with 50 percent, and Linkedin, with 57 percent.
What is Hive?
For lovers of social networks, Hive is a new application that went from being anonymous to having a significant number of users, so it is close to reaching one million accounts and currently remains in the top 20 in the virtual Apple store in the United States.
The digital platform has become popular because within its functions there are several differences with Twitter, such as that it does not depend on a timeline and that its focus is on generation Z, which gives an idea of what type of content is handled there.
The social network was founded in 2019 by Kassandra Pop, who was 22 years old at the time, so it’s not a totally new app.
Also, this platform is a combination of Instagram, Twitter and MySpace concepts, with the latter because users can add music to their profiles. And people sort their main feed based on their interests among thematic communities like science, technology, cars, music, fashion, pets, crafts, books, travel, games, art, food, and many others.
Users have functions similar to other platforms such as liking, comment and post content. However, it has a focus on a young audience because its creator considers that having a mix of classic apps is an opportunity for creators to reach a specific audience thanks to the communities.
“We didn’t want to take the responsibility of saying, ‘Hey, we think you’ll like this post, so we’ll show it to you.’ You know who you are following and those are the posts you want to see. You want to see your friends and family, so we kept it simple and people seem to really like the chronological transmission”, said Kassandra Pop, the creator of the social network.
With the changes in Twitter, various names have emerged in the social media ecosystem, such as Mastodon, an open source software developed to implement the microblogging social networks that make up Fediverso, with a great resemblance to the blue bird platform.
And that is how technology has come to help us, that is why this world does not rest and the offers grow every minute.
