Regarding the use of water in Nuevo León, the directive detailed that about 70% of total water consumption is used in agriculture, 26% is for residential use and small businesses use 4%.
Heineken responds to AMLO
In relation to the declarations of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, regarding the fact that the domestic use of water should be prioritized over the industrial use, the directors of the brewing group reiterated that they are willing to negotiate with the governments to face the water crisis in the country.
“We are willing to dialogue, understand the concerns and seek a solution together, it is important that any solution is really something that can contribute to the community and that the negative effects can be contained together,” he said.
Meanwhile, the company maintains programs to take care of the aquifers to mitigate the impact on the use of water in the entities where the seven plants it has in the country are located.
The goal is to achieve neutrality in the use of water. The company’s intention is for its plants to return to the environment the full amount – and even more – of the water used during its production processes, such as the washing of returnable beer containers. Some of the factories already have water filter wells.
The facilities that for now already meet these objectives are those located in areas of water stress (Monterrey, Guadalajara, Tecate and Toluca), and those of Navojoa and Orizaba will be added. Meoqui, which is one of Heineken’s most sustainable plants, will also undergo changes to meet the goals.
